HF NTAG213/215/216 NFC Forum Type 2 Tag
Building on NXP’s long-standing leadership in NFC, our NTAG21x passively powered IC solutions work seamlessly with our NFC reader ICs, which are used in more than 90 percent of all NFC-equipped mobile handset models. NTAG21x NFC solutions can store NDEF-formatted data, making them compatible with every NFC-enabled phone and the entire ISO/IEC 14443 infrastructure for contactless smartcards. Our NTAG21x IC portfolio features best-in-class RF performance, a range of memory sizes and smart built-in features - ready for the next generation of inlays and tags. Fast, seamless and easy to use RF interfaces make the NTAG21x IC portfolio particularly well suited for the many new smart media and marketing mass applications being launched worldwide.
NTAG for Smart Electronics Devices:
The NTAG21xF products offer - on top of the functionality of NTAG21x products - field detection and SLEEP mode, as well as a small footprint package that focuses particularly on electronic applications (i.e. connection handover, Bluetooth simple pairing, Wi-Fi protected set-up, device authentication, gaming and others). The NTAG I2C is the first product of NXP’s NTAG family offering both contactless and contact interfaces. In addition to the passive NFC Forum compliant contactless interface, the IC features an I2C contact interface which can communicate with a microcontroller. An additional externally powered SRAM mapped into the memory allows fast data transfer between the RF and I2C interfaces and vice versa, without the write cycle limitations of the EEPROM memory. Additionally, the NTAG I2C product can also supply power to external (low power) devices (e.g., a microcontroller) via the embedded energy harvesting circuitry.
NXP’s NTAG family fully complies to NFC Forum Tag specifications, ensuring universal interoperability with NFC devices (e.g., mobile phones, tablet PCs, and fixed readers). Moreover, NXP? based NTAG on the ISO 14443A standard, thus allowing easy integration into existing infrastructures using MIFARE? and SmartMX?. The NTAG family provides varying memory sizes and other special features to allow the user to select the best cost-benefit option for a particular application.
NTAG for Smart Inlays, Labels and Tags
The NTAG 21x IC product portfolio offers distinctive mechanical and electrical features to meet the multi-faceted requirements of today’s inlay, label and tag manufacturers. By uniquely identifying each object, and smartly connecting analogue and digital properties, NFC can enable entirely new brand-consumer experiences. It supports new business applications such as interactive advertising, proximity retail marketing, product authentication or on-package and on-product information sharing. Multiple memory options support simple to complex applications; and smart features such as password protection and originality signature protect data stored on chips.NTAG for Smart Electronics Devices

NTAG213, NTAG215 and NTAG216 have been developed by NXP Semiconductors as standard NFC tag ICs to be used in mass market applications such as retail, gaming and
consumer electronics, in combination with NFC devices or NFC compliant Proximity Coupling Devices. NTAG213, NTAG215 and NTAG216 (from now on, generally called
NTAG21x) are designed to fully comply to NFC Forum Type 2 Tag (Ref. 2) and ISO/IEC14443 Type A (Ref. 1) specifications.
Target applications include Out-of-Home and print media smart advertisement, SoLoMo applications, product authentication, NFC shelf labels, mobile companion tags.
Target use cases include Out-of-Home smart advertisement, product authentication, mobile companion tags, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi pairing, electronic shelf labels and business
cards. NTAG21x memory can also be segmented to implement multiple applications at the same time.
Thanks to the high input capacitance, NTAG21x tag ICs are particularly tailored for applications requiring small footprints, without compromise on performance. Small NFC
tags can be more easily embedded into e.g. product labels or electronic devices.
The mechanical and electrical specifications of NTAG21x are tailored to meet the requirements of inlay and tag manufacturers.
